Schott 2015 Run, Walk & Roll to Benefit Persons who are Deaf or Disabled

COOPER CITY, FL (
August 26, 2015) Schott Communities has scheduled their 2015 “Run, Walk & Roll” for Saturday, October 17, 2015, with race day registration starting at 5:45 a.m.  The start of the event will take place on their campus located at 6591 South Flamingo Road in Cooper City, FL.  All proceeds will benefit the organization’s mission “Schott Communities, founded with the belief that every person has the right to be treated with dignity and care, is dedicated to providing life-enriching programs, services and residences to meet the multiple needs of persons who are deaf or disabled.”  The Schott “Run, Walk & Roll” will again wind through the beautiful community of Southwest Ranches on a USTAF certified course.  Entrants can choose to participate in the timed 5K Run or the 1 mile Walk & Roll.

The proceeds from this fundraiser will be used to help continue Schott Communities’ mission – to     create an environment of dignity and care where persons with physical and/or mental challenges are encouraged to grow in self-acceptance and independence.  Each year, over 1,000 adults with special needs pass through our doors and look to us to help them to strive for a better life.

We are proud to have Dave Shula, Andrew Almeida and Diego Zorrilla as co-chairs for the event.  Mr. Shula is President of Shula’s Steakhouses, a former coach of the Cincinnati Bengals and an avid runner.  Mr. Almeida is a young man who, though born with Cerebral Palsy, defied his doctor’s predictions that he would never walk or speak.  Mr. Zorrilla, born with Spinal Bifida, has become a member of a wheelchair league. They are inspirations of determination, passion and achievement.  “We are so excited to continue to see this event grow with more sponsors and participants.  Some of these runners are dedicated athletes who take part in similar events throughout South Florida,” stated Event Co-Chair Dave Shula and added “At this event, they have a chance to meet some of the extraordinary individuals who benefit from Schott’s many programs.  They are glad to support such a worthwhile cause and help to make a difference in their lives.”

The event is expected to attract over 800 people this year.  Part of the event’s festivities will include vendors Orangetheory Fitness, One Beat CPR, Joe Hillman Plumbers, 911 CrossFit, Healthsource of Weston, Caring Touch Pain Relief Center, and many others. And of course, a great breakfast!
