What is Schott Communities?
Schott Communities is a private, non-profit organization founded in 1986 to address the needs of persons who are deaf or who are physically or intellectually challenged in South Florida. The agency is an extension of the ministry of the Archdiocese of Miami for this special population. It is named for the parents of Joseph J. Schott, Jr., who purchased its "home" in a quasi-rural section of Cooper City, Florida and established the Schott Memorial Foundation to help fund its programs and services. The organization is governed by a Board of Directors and is managed by an Executive Director and assistant directors and coordinators. A cadre of volunteers also serve the Communities.

Unique to Florida, Schott Communities develops residential housing for the deaf or disabled; designs programs to assist clients develop skills for independent living; offers clients counseling services and educational programs to promote self-sufficiency, and provides clients with social, recreational and spiritual opportunities to enhance their quality and enjoyment of life. In an environment of caring and dignity, persons who are deaf or disabled are encouraged and challenged to grow in self-acceptance and independence.

The Schott Enrichment Center provides social and educational programs to more than 225 persons who are deaf or disabled living in the local communities as well as in Schott residences.  Our programs integrate: personal growth and development, educational and artistic experiences, socialization, and physical fitness activities. In addition to its scheduled programs and services, the Center networks and collaborates with numerous civic and community organizations also serving this population. Public advocacy on behalf of this special-needs population is an important component of the organization's mission. ADT Photos 2013-2014 (239).2.jpg
